a sad day in the culinary world

Sadly, the inventor of cup noodle died. We can all thank him for keeping us fed during our college years. OK, sure, I tended towards the top Ramen myself, but the pantheon of instant noodle might not exist if it weren't for Momofuku Ando, dead at 96.

Dearly beloved, we gather here to say our good-byes...here he lies, no one knew his worth, the late, great father of college goodness.

ando, originally from taiwain, invented cup noodle when he saw so many people waiting in line for ramen (which in japan a legitimate quisine, with delicious restaurants). my japanese teacher said today that it was when he went to america and saw students making instant ramen in paper cups with forks, that he had the brilliant idea of packaging the ramen IN the cup. cup noodle has also run some excellent commercials in the past...

Is there still the large cup noodle with "real steam" in times square? Maybe they could turn it into a monument in his honor?
